The mulberries are ripe.
I was watering the garden and eating mulberries and the bottle brush tree was full of rainbow lorikeets. I dislike this tree intensely for most of the year as it's scruffy and it drops branches and is generally unkempt. But for a few magic weeks per year it's lorikeet party time in the tree.
G went to have his minor skin cancer removed and it turned into a 22 stitch job. I was glad he took his friend Mike with him as support person. G's doing OK but I bet he is going to be a complete shit tomorrow. ::sigh:: Both M and I have very cleverly run out of things to read and the chances of him chauffering us to the library are about nil. bugger.
Wonderful day yesterday at Bribie Island.

Yes, I did delete something from my bulleted list. Just had an attack of paranoia that a RL person might find this blog and I didn't want that comment to come back and haunt me.
Crap, crap, crap. I just started reading the Drivers Guide in preparation for getting my Learners Permit (and it was damned annoying that K insisted on reading it with me and indulging his passion for street signs) and learnt that there is a mandatory 6 month period before you can do a driving test. I was thinking that I would make getting my license a priority so that I was driving next holidays but I won't be able to sit a test until March. Crap. I don't actually have to be doing lessons for the entire 6 months so if I had gotten the permit in July it could have worked out better. Crap. What a stupid system!
Wish the street sweeping truck would bugger off as well. Noisy freaking thing.

Taking a clue from Rachel and doing a bulleted list
- M is difficult but I think he is bored with school holidays
- K went to the Garfield movie with my parents and did wonderfully! Watched the whole thing! Only tried to leave 3 times and accepted that he couldn't!
- Saw paed on tuesday and he described K as a miracle. Has never seen a child as severely autistic as K recover to this extent in such a short time. He had to admit that the gluten free diet has played a role as he can't see anything else which did it. Am ecstatically happy to have objective opinion which was not pre-disposed to saying the diet and supplements did anything. He was really impressed with K's sophisticated use of language. Took K into the city after that and we shopped and had lunch and it was easy!
- G is a very irritating man at the moment and is lucky to be alive. Pedanticism is him.
- I can't stop doing full stops even though I know they are wrong in bulleted lists.
- K's doing well on prozac. It's a microdose and he's just more relaxed and less reactive. 0.5 of a ml is a bitch to measure though.
- Am reading a lot of crap and would be grateful for recommendations of good reading material.

Quick notes to self
M doing OK although evenings continue to be tricky with impulsive irritating behaviour. Mornings better now he's getting risperidone at 7am before the dex. He's aware that he needs to work on his behaviour, just agreed with me that last night sucked and he doesn't want to go there again. 1 tab compounded dex, 0.75 mg risperidone.
K's on 0.5 mg of liquid prozac, starting yesterday. Slept very badly but had good day at childcare. His scripting has dropped dramatically already and he seems more present with more ability to change track easily.

YK I can't help but think if my kid had been in hospital for 6 weeks with leukaemia or diabetes, it would somehow be more socially acceptable.
My aunt's here from NZ and I just spoke with her on the phone. She really really really did not want to talk about M and hospital. Gives me the shits.
On the plus side, I also spoke with my mother and it's pretty obvious she doesn't want to expose me to my aunt and thus we don't have to go for dinner tomorrow night. Of course both kids are toxic at present. K's beyond tired with the end of term and still has the flu. M's still not under control with medication and all bets are off with his evening behaviour.
G's upset with me for telling him some necrophilia jokes. Where's the man's sense of humour?

M is home. I'm still processing emotions around the whole hospitalisation issue.
After nearly 6 weeks, he came home on dex and risperidone. He went into hospital on epilim/depakote and risperidone and it took me weeks to persuade them to even trial dex. I kept being told he had no attention issues and when they finally did the trial, they had to concede that he most certainly does.
He came home last Thursday supposedly on home leave but after a rough weekend, wehn we returned on Monday, it was made very clear to me that he was going to be discharged no matter what. That left a bad taste in my mouth. It would have been far easier on all of us if he had been discharged on Thursday.
We had a session with the unit director and the registrar. To sum up, M's now dx'ed as PDD NOS, ADHD and was described as an extraordinarily difficult child. Well, yeah. Talked over the bipolar thing and basically if M were in North America, he'd probably be dx'ed with that but here the dx is only given if the cycling is really obvious and psychosis is present. Oookay, doesn't make a scrap of difference WRT meds and that's what matters.
I'm unhappy at being discharged when they have done no observations of him on dex and risperidone but suspect that I am paying for Michael the paed's insistence on their medicating his anxiety. Originally they were planning to discharge him on dex alone =:0.
He's doing OK but is testing boundaries. I split the risp dosage to twice daily instead of giving it only at night and that's made a difference.
Been referred onto our local mental health clinic and we will see. Michael was going to organise that we were seen by the head psychiatrist rather than by interns.
M's human growth hormone tests came back as very low so I'm waiting on info about that.
K is being very oppositional and is ditzing out big time. Dunno if he is just stressed out at M's return home or whether he is just exhausted after the winter term. I'm going to have to look at his attention issues if they don't resolve as my nerves cannot stand much more of the bright shiny object distraction thing.
I've got a stinking cold and attitude to match. Feh.

I'm overwhelmed. I just feel like I am accomplishing nothing and getting nowhere. There's too much to do.
Off to the meeting where we hopefully will be discussing M's discharge. Feh.
